E-Learning
The objectives
Effective education begins with consultation, where is the company trying to go
and how? Education is the enabling tool to reach these objectives; In short, aligning
educational objectives with overall business strategies is the way forward.
Experience shows that outcomes should be measured; for example, is there evidence
of a reduction in maintenance time, increased sales or more cost efficient project
completion. These results can be qualified if the aims that were established originally
are used as the benchmark against which to check progress. This will also allow
the reviewing and evaluating process to identify areas of concern with scope to
act early for a timely resolution.
Design and pilot
As education is such an important enabling component in the overall success of the
programme, it is essential to ensure that it delivers the expected outcomes. If
a new system or service is to undergo a pilot scheme, then the testing and measurement
should be carried out as uniformly as possible within a specific group or division.
Importantly, when constructing training, it must aim to support users throughout
the learning curve - from initial theory tutorial and where necessary a guided tour
of the hardware, to user participation and then provision of support once the employee
is back at work. To provide worthwhile reviews will require measured testing, producing
evidence of any problem areas that can be addressed by enhancing the education accordingly.
This consult, design, teach, test and support methodology underpins measurable,
effective knowledge transfer.
